The stretch of I-80 out to Wendover is known for being flat, straight, and empty. The Bonneville Salt Flats where the land-speed records are set sit right along the route, and once you leave the west end of the valley there is very little in the way of services until you reach Wendover.

No. I-80 across the Bonneville Salt Flats is flat and straight, which makes for a predictable run. The reason we keep the load with one truck straight through is the emptiness, not the road. There is little out there, so we would rather not risk a handoff in the desert.
